UNDERSTANDING CARRYING ANGLES & FUNCTIONAL ANATOMY IN PRACTICE
Join Krista for an in-depth, educational yoga workshop exploring the often-overlooked concept of carrying angles and how anatomical structure influences movement, stability, and comfort in your practice.
This workshop is designed for curious practitioners, teachers, and anyone seeking a deeper understanding of how individual skeletal variations— particularly at the elbows, shoulders, and wrists— affect alignment and sensation in yoga postures. Rather than forcing the body into idealized shapes, we will learn to work with our unique structures.
WHAT WE WILL EXPLORE:
- The concept of carrying angles and how they vary from person to person
- Key anatomical structures influencing joint movement and range of motion
- How bone structure—not just flexibility—impacts your yoga practice
- Common misunderstandings about the foundation of the hands, how a teacher confuses the students, and why there may not be a “wrong” way to practice
PRACTICAL APPLICATION:
Through guided observations and pose breakdowns, we will examine variations of foundational postures such as Downward Dog, Plank, Chaturanga, and standing poses. You will learn how to adapt these shapes based on your individual anatomy, improving both safety and ease.
TECHNIQUES FOR PAIN PREVENTION & RELIEF:
- Joint friendly alignment strategies
- Muscle engagement techniques to support vulnerable areas
- Identifying the difference between productive sensation and pain
This workshop emphasizes body awareness over aesthetics, empowering you to make informed, compassionate choices in your practice. Whether you experience discomfort in weight-bearing poses or simply want to refine your understanding of alignment, you will leave with tools to practice more sustainably and confidently.
Students, Teachers, and all levels are welcome.
