Workshop with Bruce Chung May 7th

Sunday, May 7 2.30pm-5pm

Empower Your Shoulders

Inversions like pinca mayurasana or forearm stand is equated with core strength, and little thought is given to the importance of the shoulders. Learn how to strengthen and stabilise the shoulders which is the key to unlocking this posture that demonstrates a balance of softness and strength. In this workshop, Bruce will provide you with different ways to strengthen and stabilise the shoulder girdle so you are able to practice pinca mayurasana with a fully-supported foundation. Open to practitioners of all levels.

Bruce began teaching yoga full-time in his native Toronto in 2008. In 2009 he moved to Asia where his practice and thus teaching really began to take shape. Spending 6 years in Singapore, Bangkok, and Hong Kong teaching for 2 of Asia’s premier yoga studios, Absolute Yoga and Pure Yoga, allowed Bruce to practice with, and study under, some world-renowned teachers. Teachers like Briohny Smyth & Dice Iida-Klein, Jason Crandell, and Tiffany Cruickshank helped Bruce understand the body and its intelligence. Just as important and inspiring in shaping Bruce’s practice are the local teachers who are not household yoga names, but deserve equal praises for their wealth of knowledge and insights. These experiences in a land far away from Bruce’s native Toronto, allowed him to develop a teaching voice that is authentic and unique, and able to speak to many cultures and body types.

Yoga is a practice and a lifestyle for Bruce, one that he on one hand admits to struggling with everyday, and on the other continues to lean on for strength, clearing, and clarity. His yoga educational background is in vinyasa, yin and therapy. As a result, his classes can be energising, calming, and healing. He strives to provide an environment where students feel safe, and at peace.
